It looks like one of the first animated children’s shows to debut on Apple’s streaming video service in 2019 will return for a second season.

A new trailer for Snoopy in space landed this week, revealing that a dozen new episodes will arrive on Apple TV + on Friday, November 12.

Although Apple has embarked on a variety of children’s entertainment on Apple TV +, its partnership with the Peanuts franchising remains one of its most important transactions, and Snoopy in space was the series that started it all.

In fact, Snoopy titled the very first Apple TV + Original, Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10, which arrived in May 2019, six months before the streaming service opened, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 10 moon reconnaissance mission.

This was later followed by the announcement that Snoopy would win his own series of space flights, Snoopy in space, in a historic partnership with NASA and DHX Media, which owns the rights to Peanuts gang.

The first season of Snoopy in space was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award and won a Parent’s Choice Gold Award in 2020. The original special that started it all, Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10, also won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding One-Camera Editing.

What’s interesting is that the original partnership focused exclusively on STEM topics, hence the partnership with NASA and the focus on creating a show that would educate kids about travel in the world. space and hopefully inspire a few to pursue related careers in the process. A year later, however, Apple has extended its partnership with subsidiary DHX Wild Brain to become “the house of all things” Peanuts. ”

As a result of the deal, Apple secured the rights to all of Charlie Brown’s specials, which became an Apple TV + exclusive, much to the chagrin of fans who had grown up with seasonal favorites like A Charlie Brown Christmas. While Apple promised to stream old content on Apple TV + for free, it was ultimately forced to make a deal with PBS to continue to offer them on television.

Meanwhile, Apple has created a new original Peanuts series, The Snoopy Show to continue to tell the everyday stories of Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang, while preserving the spirit of the original Charles M. Schulz comics and television specials that have followed in his footsteps.

In addition, Apple also brings the Peanuts back for a new holiday special for the first time in almost twenty years, which should be good news for fans who otherwise feared the franchise was scrapped after Schulz’s death in 2000.

Amid it all, however, it seems Apple hasn’t forgotten the origins of its partnership with everyone’s favorite beagle, as a STEM project to help educate kids as well as entertain them.

This continues to be the goal of Snoopy in space. The first season with an outing that took Snoopy to the International Space Station and the moon, and Season 2 will go even deeper into the Last Frontier, with the gang going in search of alien life.

After exploring the moon and visiting the International Space Station in the first season, Snoopy and the gang are ready for their next big adventure, an epic journey through the universe to find out if there really is life in it. outside of Earth.

It’s not just science fiction, however, as the new season, which is titled The search for life, will highlight the real “scientific and technological processes behind space exploration”, through the prism of Peanuts gang in an accessible and informative way for young viewers.

Snoopy and his friends bring NASA’s most exciting current research to life, from finding traces of ice and ancient fossils on Mars, to drilling in oceans hidden inside distant moons, and even research of exoplanets far beyond our own solar system.
