The series
The Murray State softball team travels to Nashville Saturday and Sunday for a three-game series between the OVC’s top two teams, the Racers and Belmont Bruins. Saturday will be a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single match on Sunday, also at 1 p.m.

All-time series at a glance
The Racers are 18-6 against the Bruins and 5-3 when they play in Nashville. Belmont ended a six-game series winning streak by Murray State last season when it took the final game of a three-game series from Murray.

Scouting the Bruins
Belmont is currently 18-9 this season and, like Murray State, 9-2 in the OVC. Like the Racers, the Bruins lost front and back in a road series last weekend when they went 1-2 at UT Martin.

Cheynne Cavanaugh leads Belmont offensively this season with a .409 batting average, 13 RBIs, 11 walks and the seventh most stolen base per game in the nation at .86 for a total of 22. In the circle, Emma Summer opens the way for the Bruins at 7-4 with nine complete games, one shutout, two saves and 6.6 strikeouts in seven innings. As a team, Belmont is currently hitting .314 and has a 3.30 ERA, while his opponents are hitting .260 against them.

A streak win would be…
A series win would give the Racers sole possession of first place in the OVC with four three-game series and one doubleheader left on its conference schedule.

Battle of the best
This weekend’s series will be a battle between the OVC’s best offense and its best pitching staff. The Racers currently have the lowest ERA in the league at 1.54, which is the eighth lowest in the nation. Offensively, the Bruins lead the OVC in batting average, hitting an impressive .314 on the year. Conversely, Murray State is hitting a .288 clip, while Belmont’s staff has a 3.30 ERA.

Double your pleasure
Murray State’s Logan Braundmeier currently leads the 293 NCAA Division I teams in the total doubles category with 17. The senior is also third nationally in doubles per game at 0.49.

No free passes
Murray State’s Hannah James and Emma Summers of Belmont are currently two of the best pitchers in the country when it comes to their strikeout ratio. James currently leads the OVC and is ninth nationally with 9.21 strikeouts for each walk, while Summer is second in the league and 12th in the nation with 8.38. Summers is also ninth in Division I in walks by seven innings at 0.76, while Murray State Jenna Veber at the age of 11and at 0.83 and James is 24and at 0.95.
