SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 20, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Miller Group (TMG) announced Rudy R. Miller, chairman, president and chief executive officer of TMG and its affiliated entities, and chairman of the advisory board and ( aviation) Scholarship Committee, Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial, Inc. (Tbird2), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was recently notified of its distinguished honor of being added to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum wall of honor by Mr. Steve Ziomek, Chairman and President of Tbird2.

Mr. Ziomek said, “As a former Coast Guard rescue pilot, private pilot, and currently honored on the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum wall of honor, it is with great pleasure that I nominate and sponsor Rudy for the same national recognition. He has dedicated much of his life to giving back to and supporting the aviation community. This is evident in his past major involvements in the commercial aviation industry and his unwavering support of Tbird2’s mission over the years.

Mr. Miller remarked, “Steve Ziomek called me and said he had an important item he needed to deliver to me in person. He introduced himself and gave me an envelope containing a Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum wall of honor Registration certificate in my name …. I was totally stunned! He stated: “In recognition of your contributions to our aviation and space exploration heritage, Rudy R. Miller will be inscribed on the National Air and Space Museum’s Wall of Honor as a permanent testament to your commitment and passion for flying.“Although I was never trained as a pilot, I logged a modest number of hours in a Piper Cheyenne II turbo twin many years ago.”

Miller continued, “However, as the former CEO of a scheduled passenger airline that was licensed to operate under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the form of a Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 121 certificate , my responsibility for all flight operations was 24/7, 365 days a year and the responsibility ended with me.

“I had to make some very difficult decisions in the airline industry regarding aircraft emergencies that could have affected the lives of many passengers and crew. We were lucky, we overcame these problems successfully. We had developed an excellent contingency plan and team approach for this type of incident, involving the FAA, our aircraft manufacturer – engineers, master pilots, maintenance experts, flight attendants managing the safety interaction with passengers , several control towers and assistance air traffic controllers. All of the talented team members have made a difference in challenging environments with positive results.

“In conclusion, I am extremely proud to have participated in the creation of thousands of jobs for many years related to the aviation industry and the development of the aviation scholarship program for Tbird2.”
