Net Health Research Team to Present Key Findings Data at ACRM Conference

Research team presenting the value of telerehabilitation and advances in patient-reported outcome measurement for patients with dizziness and balance disorders

PITTSBURGH, November 9, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Highlighting the company’s leadership in the industry, Net Health Research and Clinical Outcomes has been selected to deliver three presentations at 99e American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Conference, November 8 – 11 in Chicago. The ACRM is billed as the world’s largest interdisciplinary rehabilitation research conference, bringing together the best scientists and clinicians from around the world.

Net Health’s FOTO® Patient Outcomes is a leading innovator in rehabilitation therapy patient outcomes and analytics, providing frontline clinicians with accurate benchmarking of patients against their professional peers nationwide using both modern measurement science (eg, FOTO®, PROMIS) and traditional measurements (eg, Oswestry, DASH). Since its inception in 1992, FOTO has participated in 139 research studies published in peer-reviewed medical or rehabilitation journals.

ACRM presentations are:

  • Presentation: Associations between telerehabilitation and outcomes for patients with low back pain during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wednesday, November 9 – 3:55 p.m. – 4:11 p.m.
  • Presentation: Reliability, validity and effectiveness of a patient-reported outcome measure. Thursday November 10 – 3:55 p.m. – 4:11 p.m.
  • Poster presentation: New dizziness impact measures based on element response theory were reliable, valid, and effective. Wednesday, November 9 – 12:23 – 12:28

Presentations will be led by Daniel Deutscher, PT, Ph.D., Principal Investigator for Net Health. The company’s poster presentation was selected as the winner of this year’s ACRM Measurement Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group (ISIG) Poster Award “Advancing the Science of Measurement”.

“We are thrilled and honored to have these three studies presented at ACRM,” said Deanna Hayes, PT, DPT, MS, Director of Research and Clinical Outcomes for Net Health. “These presentations demonstrate the rigor behind FOTO’s measurement accuracy and its commitment to reducing patient and provider burden while harnessing modern science and technology.”

The studies provide valuable information for today’s rehabilitation industry and therapists.

The Telerehabilitation (TR) study showed a positive association between TR and rehabilitation outcomes, including better functional status outcomes and fewer visits, when all care was provided by TR. The main finding of this observational study was that for people with low back pain, physical therapy delivered by TR was just as effective and more efficient than in-person care. Additionally, it showed that TR was most effective when used for all visits during the episode of care.

Two outcome measure development studies supported reliability (accuracy), validity, and efficiency of administration (low survey completion burden) for assessing balance confidence and functional status related to dizziness. The two studies combined included more than 48,000 adult patients with balance disorders, vertigo, brain damage or neck disorders.

Dizziness research has identified three valid domains (e.g., positional, functional, and/or emotional aspects that may influence vertigo) that should be assessed separately, resulting in one of FOTO’s most sophisticated measurement algorithms. The results will help therapists identify the area that has the greatest impact on patients’ functional abilities, allowing them to better tailor treatments while increasing patient safety during rehabilitation.
