DUBAI, 20th May, 2022 (WAM) — A delegation from the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, led by Managing Director Salem Al Marri, visited Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) to explore potential collaboration in the research and use of UAE d ‘EGA – made of aluminum in space.
Al Marri was received at EGA’s Jebel Ali site in Dubai by Managing Director Abdulnasser bin Kalban and senior company technologists. The delegation visited EGA’s state-of-the-art research and development facilities, foundry and laboratories.
The two sides discussed potential future synergies, including the use of EGA metal by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center in the construction of its next spacecraft, the sharing of laboratory capabilities, machinery and high-end manufacturing facilities. , and the supply of materials.
Bin Kalban said: “We look forward to close cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center as the UAE’s aluminum industry contributes to our country’s space ambitions. Aluminum is light, strong and recyclable. to infinity and has been a key material in the aerospace sector since the dawn of flight I can’t wait for EGA’s UAE-made low carbon metal to leave our planet as part of a spacecraft manufactured in the UAE.
Al Marri said: “I am grateful to have the opportunity to visit one of the most innovative industrial companies in the United Arab Emirates. Thanks to EGA, the United Arab Emirates is a major global producer of aluminum, a metal essential for space exploration. We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with EGA and to prepare new generations of Emirati engineers, experts and researchers for the future strategic, sustainable and scientific achievements of the space sector of the United Arab Emirates.”
Since the launch of the first satellite in 1957, aluminum has been the star material for spaceflight. Given the attributes of aluminum alloys to perform under extreme stresses, pressures and temperatures, aluminum’s role as the metal of choice for spacecraft and their components remains unmatched.
EGA and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center have made respective visits to each other’s facilities and have worked closely to organize a series of online lectures focusing on the role of innovation in space exploration and the aluminum industry.
For decades to come, EGA aims to be a technology frontrunner for the global aluminum industry, including in the adoption of Industry 4.0, to expand the company’s position as the technology provider of choice. and establish a thriving manufacturing innovation ecosystem in the UAE.
