Aligarh: “Science is useful for the betterment of society, for example the discovery of penicillin changed the course of medicine and enabled doctors to treat once serious and life-threatening diseases,” guest said principal, Prof. MU Rabbani, Chairman of the JNMC Department of Cardiology. , AMU, while inaugurating Science Awareness Week celebrations under the “Synergic Training Program Using Science and Technology Infrastructure (STUTI)”, supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) .

Professor Rabbani also told the stories concerning Newton and James Watt for their discovery and invention. He also published the brochure of the week-long program organized by the Department of Physics, AMU.

After the inaugural ceremony, a popular science lecture on “The Universal Laws of Thermodynamics that Govern Life on Earth” was given by Dr. SSZ Ashraf, from the Department of Physics. He highlighted the fundamental laws of thermodynamics and explained their applications.

Professor BP Singh, Chairman of the Department of Physics, in his welcome speech, emphasized the importance and usefulness of celebrating Science Awareness Week as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Dr. M Wasi Khan introduced DST’s STUTI initiative to the audience and students and discussed its main features and components.

During the first session, students created “Science Fun through Science Quiz” which was based on a science theme. A short video on – “Atomic Energy in India: A Glorious Past and a Resplendent Future” was shown to the students. Speeches on science and technology and innovative ideas from science students were also discussed.

The afternoon session was devoted to “hands-on training activities” through familiarization of scientific equipment and demonstration as per the guidelines of the Government of India. Demonstrations of spectrometers, microscopes, liquid crystals, telescopes, oscilloscopes, diffractometers, etc. were made and students participated in demonstration and hands-on training sessions.

After the demonstration session; certificates, prizes and souvenirs for the quiz contest winners were given to the students. Qazi Talha Ali received the first prize, while Bhanu P Singh and Sadique Ilyas won the second and third prizes respectively.

Dr. Jai Prakash presented a vote of thanks and called all activities.
